A festival brings an element of excitement and surprise with it. How about setting a surprise for your little ones wrapped in an innocent looking pathiri? As the name suggests, this appam is like a petti - a box - in which we keep what we cherish, like this creamy, buttery meat filling.

Ingredients
A) For the filling
Masala
1 cup oil
1/2 cup chopped cabbage
1/2 cup chopped beans
1/2 cup chopped carrot
1/2 cup minced beef cooked with salt and pepper
Salt
Pepper powder
Sauce
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp maida/all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1 cup milk
Salt
B) For the pathiri
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Water

Preparation
A) For the filling
Masala
Heat oil in a pan.
Add chopped cabbage, beans, carrot, salt and pepper powder.
Saute until the raw smell leaves the pan.
Add minced beef and saute for 5 minutes.
Keep it aside.
Sauce
In another pan, heat butter.
Add maida and stir well.
Now add pepper powder, salt and milk, stir well.
When the sauce thickens, add beef mix and mix thoroughly.
B) For the pathiri
Make a loose batter with egg, all-purpose flour, salt, pepper and water.
Heat a pan and pour in the batter.
Make a thin crepe and cook covered.
There is no need to flip it.
When done, remove from the pan.
Add the filling in the middle.
Fold the edges of the pathiri and wrap it into a square box.
Heat oil in a pan.
Dip the pettiyaappam in beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs.
Shallow fry the appam until both sides turn light brown.
