Dates puli inji is the superstar among sweet dishes on your Sadya platter. Its taste goes well with the rice and all other curries. Try out this simple recipe of dates puli inji for this year's Onam sadya.

Ingredients
15 dates
2 balls jaggery (melted)
1 tsp tamarind paste
75-100 gm grated ginger
2 bulbs of garlic
5-6 green chillies
3 bunches curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 tbsp oil
2 tsp chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
Salt as required

Preparation
Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds
Sauté ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves in it
After the water from the ginger has completely evaporated, add chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder
Sauté until the raw smell is off
Into it add the melted jaggery and water if required
Now add the tamarind paste or tamarind water and salt as required
Add the dates and mix well
Cook until the dates are cooked soft and the water gets reduced.
