The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India has published four simple ways to reduce the consumption of salt in daily life. Over consumption of salt may lead to many health problems like high blood pressure. So, those who suffer from high blood pressure must refrain from using too much in their food. Besides, it may even cause kidney diseases. Moreover, consuming too much salt could weaken the immunity and makes the body vulnerable to viral infections.
The FSSAI has posted four simple tips, in its official Twitter handle that would help you limit the use of salt in diet.
1. Lemon powder, dried mango powder, ajwain, pepper powder and panikoorka or coleus barbatus herb could be used as healthy alternatives to salt.
2. Instead of adding salt while cooking, add it only after the dish has been cooked.
3. Food items like pickles, papad, sauces, chutneys and crispies are loaded with salt. Try to avoid these in your daily diet.
4. Adding salt in dishes like rice, dosa, roti and puri would overpower the natural sweetness of the grains. So, it is better to avoid salt in these foods.
