Water makes up around 60 per cent of our total body mass. Yet, losing just about 2 per cent or more, of water from our body can cause some serious damage. If the body does not get enough water, it can have negative impact on health. Lack of water will cause the body temperature to increase. You will feel fatigue. Your digestion process will be affected. Functioning of muscles and bones will be disturbed. Internal organs like kidneys affect the quantity of water in our bodies. Even brain can be affected by a shortage of water.
The role of water in controlling our metabolism can never be overstated. Water is also a major content in determining the fluid balance of the body. It plays a major role in controlling the body weight, as well as the quality of your skin.
The main source for water in the body is through drinking. Nothing, like fruits or fruit juice or tea, or coffee, can replace water. According to science, a person of average health should drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water every day. You need to keep drinking water according to the rate of losing water from the body. Body can get dehydrated in many ways. It can be lost in the form of sweat, or urine or tears. Moisture is lost even through breath. Your water intake needs to be increased during hot weather.
But, drinking water while eating is not a good habit. It can affect the digestive process. Water can weaken the digestive enzymes. The functioning of digestive enzymes can be slowed down by the intake of water while eating. This can reversely affect the digestive process. The production of digestive enzymes can also get reduced.
In short, it is always better to reduce the quantity of water you drink while eating. Take care to drink water either before eating, or after the meal.
