You might swear it is beer until you taste it! The pale yellow drink frothing up in a beer glass has a striking resemblance with beer, both in appearance and taste. Believe me, it is a zero-alcoholic beverage made out of nutmeg peel. When comparing with beer, this drink has some impressive health benefits also.

You can order this new soft drink, christened as ‘Reeb’ at the Third Place cafe in Kottayam. A product of Rock sugar industries in Poonjar, a glass of Reeb costs 90 rupees. Twin Job, the managing director of Third Place, says that there is an escalating demand for Reeb.

To a certain extent, nutmeg peel also contains the medicinal properties of nutmeg. It is used to prepare nutmeg wine and jathikka arishtam (an ayurvedic preparation). Nutmeg arishtam cures indigestion and other gastric disorders. It was also found effective in curbing excess fat.
