Veteran actress Urvashi revealed that she still regrets not settling a few issues with her late sister actress Kalpana. Though she had hoped to meet and talk to her elder sister, Urvashi was devastated to know that Kalpana had passed away just a day before they had planned to meet.

Urvashi, aka Kavitha Ranjini, had called up her mother two days before she was supposed to meet Kalpana. She recalled, excitedly talking to her mother about the meeting that would take place soon. However, fate had something else in store for the family.

Kalpana had to leave to Hyderabad for the filming of a Telugu movie and had invited Urvashi to her home before she left. But before that meeting could take place, Kalpana, who entertained the Malayali audience with her incredible on screen performances bid adieu to the world, leaving her family, friends and fans devastated.

In 'Onnum Onnum Moonnu' show aired on Mazhavil Manorama, Urvashi opened about up about the relationship that she shared with her late sister. The popular actress said that she is still upset that she didn’t get a chance to talk to Kalpana about certain things, and added that nothing in life happens as we wish.

“From childhood itself, she used to take all the decisions for me. God has, in fact, created me for her to control. It was natural that we had our own share of fights and reconciliations. As her younger sister, I used to obey her in everything. We drifted apart after I took the decision related to an issue in my personal life, all by myself. I took that decision ignoring her opinion in it. In fact, I used to wear only those dresses which Kalpana chose for me. It was she who gave opinions after watching my movies. So when I decided for myself, a rift occurred between us,” revealed Urvashi.

Kalpana had passed away on January 25, 2016, in Hyderabad, where she was acting in bilingual film 'Thozha' starring Nagarjuna and Karthi.

Two days earlier, Urvashi had reached Thiruvananthapuram to attend a programme. Their brother Kamal had told Urvashi that she could travel to Kochi after the programme, to talk to Kalpana and amicably sort out the issues between the sisters.

“I had even talked to my mother about it and informed that I would reach there on 26. My sister adored my son. My mother told me that Kalpana was getting ready to go to Hyderabad and that she would be back in a day. But when I reached on that day, I could only see her lifeless body. I am still sad that I couldn’t talk and settle some issues between us. But nothing in life happens as we wish,” said the actress.

Recalls late brother

Urvashi turned emotional when she spoke about her younger brother Prince, who too is no more. She opened up about it when she was asked about one of the most painful moments in her life. “Just 20 days after the demise of our younger brother Prince, we had gone abroad to take part in a stage programme. My mother, Kalpana chechy and Jagathy Sreekumar too were in the group. The organiders had announced that programme as they had complete trust in us. We were supposed to portray comic characters on the stage. That was an excruciating experience,” admitted Urvashi.

“We had put on happy faces while performing on stage. Our mother was sitting in a room back stage. If someone asked her about her son, she would begin to cry. We were very tensed about her. So we assigned a person to be around our mother all the time, to make sure that no one asked her about our brother. We had to perform comedy on stage, while we were suffering inside. He was the youngest among us. We had never gone through such painful experience in our lives,” Urvashi opened up.

Family affairs

Urvashi further said that her family was keeping fine and that her son Ishaan Prajapathi was studying in LKG. “I used to take him to the sets when he was little. So he knows about camera and other things. Kunjatta (Tejalakshmi - Urvashi’s daughter from her previous marriage to actor Manoj K Jayan) would occasionally visit us at Chennai. Both of them would go for shopping together,” said the actress.

Circle of friends

Urvashi who thrilled the South Indian audience still shares friendly relations with actors like Jagadeesh, Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan. She also shares a wonderful rapport with yesteryear actresses like Shobana, Rohini and Nadiya Moidu. Actress Parvathy is in fact her neighbor in Chennai. She said, “We did 'Malootty' (1990) when Jayaram and Parvathy were in love. Myself and other friends had helped them during their courtship days as Parvathy’s mother and a few of her family members were against this relationship,” revealed Urvashi.

Handsome hero

Urvashi had no doubts when she said that Sreenivasan was the most handsome actor. She admitted that the actor had more talent and fame than any other chocolate hero of that time. “Almost all the actresses in Malayalam have acted opposite Sreenivasan. The same happens even today. It is the true art surpasses the looks or physical beauty,” Urvashi has nothing but respect for the actor.
