On Sunday night, hundreds of people thronged Kochi airport to welcome Dr Rajith Kumar, the controversial public speaker who was eliminated from the television reality show, Bigg Boss Malayalam, recently.
The elimination
Bigg Boss is a social experiment reality show in which contestants, mostly celebrities, have to stay inside a house for 100 days, cut off from the outside world. During this period, the contestants are assigned various tasks and are monitored by live television cameras and personal audio microphones.
Rajith Kumar was ousted a few days ago from the show for applying chilly in the eyes of his fellow contestant Reshma when she was celebrating her birthday. This happened when the contestants were asked to act like school students.
His act compelled the Bigg Boss organizers to evict him temporarily from the house.
On Saturday evening, the show's host, actor Mohanlal, asked Reshma about her stand on the issue. She responded: “I shall forgive him but I am not ready to accept him inside the house.”
Rajith Kumar was thus shown the door.
Who is Rajith Kumar
Rajith Kumar is a botany teacher at the Sree Sankara College, Kalady. He is known for his misogynistic and gender-insensitive utterances.
In 2013, during an interaction with college students, he had stated women who wear jeans will give birth to transgender babies, drawing widespread criticism. A few years later, he repeated the same comment during a television show. He also drew flak for his statement that women's uterus would get displaced when they jump and this would cause infertility.
Rush at airport
Rajith Kumar's fan base appears to have grown bigger after his Bigg Boss entry. This was apparent in the 'boycott Bigg Boss' social media campaign' launched by his fans after his elimination. They even hurled abuses at Mohanlal for not favouring Rajith Kumar.
The reception was organised, defying the state government's plea to desist from mass gatherings in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
In one of the videos, Rajith Kumar was heard saying that he did not do anything wrong. "It was an act. I was provoked. If you watched again, you would know why I did that.”
Though he apologized to Reshma during the elimination episode, Rajith Kumar had justified his act after coming out of the show. He said, "I am not a politician. I am a human being. I just know to love people around me. I could perform neatly all the tasks given to me. At certain points in life, we are denied of justice. I believe that I have not committed any mistake."
Case against Rajith Kumar
The fan show happened despite the government's repeated pleas to avoid all mass gatherings to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The Nedumbassery police on Monday registered a case against 79 people, including Rajith Kumar, a professor at the Sree Sankara College, Kalady, on various charges. Two arrests have been made by the team led by Nedumbassery CI P M Biju. Chelamattom natives Nibas and Mohammed Afsal are the ones arrested.
Movie offer
Alleppy Ashraf recently offered Rajith Kumar a role in his upcoming movie Crazy Task, helmed by a debutant Peckon Ambrose. Touted to be a comedy entertainer, the movie is about three women who escape from a mental hospital. The director revealed that he is a fan of Rajith Kumar and carved a role of a psychiatrist tailor-made for Rajith Kumar. If Rajith signs the dotted lines, he will be playing the lead role in the movie.
