Malayalam film director M Padmakumar stated that 'Odiyan' is a complete Shrikumar Menon film and that he has associated with the movie a few times as the friend of the filmmaker. Padmakumar also said he often associates with other filmmakers for creative contributions if solicited.

Padmakumar also said that the wide release of big-budget movies often poses threat to small movies like 'Joseph'.

When his film 'Joseph' was playing in theatres, it was replaced by a Rajinikanth movie. Again, after 'Joseph' got back to the screens, 'Odiyan' took over. It's always small-budget movies that are the source of daily income for crew members. Their income is adversely affected if mega movies push such films out of theatres.

Padmakumar also said that plans were on to discuss about the ramifications of such releases.
