Did you know that yesteryear leading Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit was paid more than the then-upcoming Salman Khan for the 1994 film 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Yes, you heard it right.

On Sunday, Madhuri relived her popular superhit film 'Hum Apke Hain Kaun' (HAHK) and said she was grateful to director Sooraj Barjatya for making her part of the film. She also took to Twitter to share a beautiful throwback picture of her with her co-star in the film, Salman Khan.

At this point, we dug out what actor Anupam Kher once said about the 1994 film and it might surprise you. It so happened that Anupam Kher was part of a gender equality campaign on Twitter, a woman tweeted to him saying, “The actress r paid less as compared to the actors. Firstly,Gender Equality shld start frm here.Wat u think.” (sic.) Anupam Kher as a reply tweeted, “I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK.”

Earlier, in an interview, Madhuri herself had admitted the same and said, “We (actresses) work as hard as the heroes, sometimes even more. There is always the hair, makeup and all that. But it is a male-oriented society. It is a patriarchal society and we can’t get away from that fact.”

Madhuri also talked about women speaking up against sexual violence and other gender-related issues in the interview. The actress said, “Yeah, it’s healthy and you should speak about them because they are a part of whatis happening today. I think women have found their voice, they are talking about it and it is great.”
