The conductor and driver of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus ensured that the passenger is not left alone at the deserted Chavara Shankaramangalam stop around 1.30 am and waited for seven minutes for her brother to arrive, without worrying about the schedule.
The world knew about it when the passenger, Athira Jayan, offered a warm thank-you note to conductor P B Shaiju and driver K Gopakumar on social media about their gesture early on June 2 . Athira was travelling from Athani in Angamaly to Chavara on a Coimbatore-Thiruvananthapuram superfast bus.
The woman, who works at Athani, had boarded the bus from there at 09.30 pm. The brother was due to arrive at the Chavara bus stop on a two-wheeler but was delayed in heavy rain.
Shaiju and Gopakumar, staff members at the Thiruvananthapuram central depot, have been receiving congratulations non-stop. Many top officials including the district transport officer called them both to express appreciation. They also received a note from KSTRC managing director Tomin Thachankary
Shaiju hails from Govindamuttam, Kayamkulam, while Gopakumar is a native of Pulimath at Kilimanoor.
