New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has reduced the prices of textbooks for classes 9-12 by 20%. The council has also entered into an agreement with e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart to distribute the books at the discounted rate.

Making the announcement, NCERT authorities said that the new prices will come into effect from the coming academic year. However, the textbooks for classes 1-8 will continue to be sold at Rs 65 per copy, they added.

“NCERT textbooks will be available even for students in remote villages through the e-commerce platforms,” said the council officials.

Every year, NCERT carries out printing of 4-5 crore school textbooks under around 300 titles. NCERT is planning to increase the number of textbooks to 15 crore from the next academic year.
