Eligibility
Candidates with the following academic qualifications are eligible to apply:

  • Master’s degree in Science, Economics, Geography, Psychology, Commerce, Management, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science
  • B.Tech / Four-Year BS / MBBS / MD / MDS / Pharm D / B.Pharm
  • Four-year degree with a minimum GPA of 8/10 or equivalent from any central government-funded premier institution
  • Professional membership equivalent to B.Tech
  • Master’s degree in Life or Chemical Sciences from IISc with a minimum GPA of 8.5/10

In addition to academic qualifications, qualifying in national entrance tests like GATE or NET is recommended. Candidates must pass the qualifying exam with at least second class, except for Scheduled Tribe candidates, who only need to qualify. The GATE or NET scorecard must be valid as of January 1, 2025. Eligible NET exams include CSIR-UGC NET, UGC-NET, DBT, ICMR, JEST, NBHM, INSPIRE, and others. Applicants who have passed the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences-2024 (JGEEBILS) can also apply.

Final-year students expecting to complete their degree requirements by January 31 and receive their certificates by March 31 are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on interview performance. Candidates who attended interviews in the May admission round are also eligible. In some departments, an aptitude test will precede the interview.

External Registration Program
This program is designed for professionals working in Research and Development organizations, industries, or as faculty members in Engineering, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, and Medical colleges or universities. It is not for regular students eligible for standard admission. While qualifying in a national entrance test like NET is preferred, it is not mandatory.

Eligibility requirements:

  • At least two years of full-time employment with the current organization after degree completion
  • Official sponsorship from the employer
  • Selection is based on an interview

Application process
Applications must be submitted online by October 24. Those applying for the External Registration Program should submit hard copies of their application and relevant documents by October 30.

The application fee is Rs. 800, with a reduced fee of Rs. 400 for candidates from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and Differently Abled categories. The fee for the External Registration Program is Rs. 2,000. Reservation norms set by the Government of India will be followed. All regular PhD students are eligible for scholarships upon joining the institute.
