Kannur; In a significant achievement, Nirmalagiri College in Kuthuparamba, Kannur, has received a special mention in the Kerala State Biodiversity Board's awards for educational campuses demonstrating exceptional efforts in biodiversity conservation. Out of all the institutions considered, only three colleges from the state earned this recognition, with Nirmalagiri College standing out as the sole representative from North Kerala.

This special mention acknowledges the college's extensive efforts to protect and enhance the biodiversity of its campus. The initiatives include paddy cultivation, a vegetable farm, a project dedicated to conserving the diversity of birds and ants, QR coding of plant species, a garden featuring rare bamboo varieties, a mango orchard, a fruit orchard, and bio-fencing.

These activities are spearheaded by the college's Bhoomithra Sena, National Service Scheme (NSS), NCC unit, and the Zoology and Botany departments. College Principal Dr. T.K. Sebastian, former college bursar Fr. Shaji Thekkemuriyil, and Bhoomithra Sena Coordinator Reshmi P. Thomas etc are instrumental in driving these initiatives.
