New Delhi: Students who have completed their medical education in other countries have to complete an internship within 10 years from the date of joining their foreign medical institutions to procure the qualification equivalent to MBBS in India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has stated.

Only if they complete the internship can they avail training in India, it said.

The NMC had, on November 2021, cancelled the recognition for BS course in the Philippines. However, it extended relaxation to those students who had completed the course or taken admission before the decision was taken. The one-time relaxation was granted to those who continued their education in the Philippines. They have to undergo an additional one-year internship, the NMC directed.
