Kollam: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded sanction to the Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SNOU) to commence four graduation and two post-graduation courses in addition to existing ones.

The nod has been received to start History, Philosophy, Sociology, and Economics degree-level programmes, and History and Sociology post-graduate courses, Vice-Chancellor Dr P M Mubarak Pasha, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr S V Sudheer, and Syndicate member Biju K Mathew said.

The BA Philosophy course is mainly based on the teachings of social reformer Sree Narayanaguru.

Interested candidates may apply from March 1 to March 31. The classes of five degree courses and two PG courses, which earlier got the UGC nod, have started. The next batch of the six-month course, specifically designed for people’s representatives to local bodies, will commence soon.

Special project for dropouts
A special project has been readied, in coordination with local-self institutions, to help those elders, forced to discontinue their degree studies due to various reasons, complete the same, the Vice-Chancellor said.

The programme has been initiated at Padinjarekallada grama panchayat in Kollam district. Also, another project will be rolled out in tie-up with the Tourism department to preserve the district’s heritage. Website https://sgou.ac.in/.
