Thiruvananthapuram: English language learning is set to become enjoyable and easy for schools students in Kerala as e-Language labs are set to be opened. The e–Language Lab project, which envisions setting up of modern language labs at all the schools will be launched on Friday by Education Minister V Sivankutty.

The E–Language Lab would also be installed in the 1.2 lakh laptops that were distributed to school students across the state.

The minister would inaugurate the project at Girls Upper Primary School at Poojappura t 3.30 pm.

(A language laboratory is a dedicated space for foreign language learning where students will have access to audio or audio-visual materials.)

The languages labs are proposed as part of the ‘E-Cube English’ project that was designed by the General Education Department.

The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), a state government enterprise, has developed the software that would be used in the e-Language Labs.

The e–Language Lab is an excellent project that helps the students listen, speak, read and write English fluently and confidently, KITE CEO Anwar Sadath said.

Four modules now
In the initial stage, four modules have been designed for the students in classes 1 to 7. The units have been divided based on the language goals that the student needs to achieve at every stage.

The teaching modules help the teachers evaluate the progress of each student and give them necessary support. Besides, special modules for the head teachers to oversee the effectiveness of the project too has been included.
