Time's up

"Peace on earth…"
Sang the Church choir
And the children skeed on snowy slopes.
The lights were up, and the trees were full
Of presents chosen with intentions good
And Santa Claus in a beautiful slay
Made children world over, happy and gay.
It was the time of laughter, the time of giving
The time of peace, and kindness and loving.
Then the snow melted, and winter was gone
And so was good ol’ Santa Clause.
The trees were dismantled, the lights put away,
Waiting for yet another Christmas day.
"Peace on earth and mercy mild,"
Remained a carol, forgotten, unsung.
And the love and magic of Christmas disappeared
Being unwanted in a material world
That yearned for winter and Christmas time
Only for the parties and gifts it brought.
When kindness, love, and peace vanished.
