More than 200 students took part in the human chain as a symbolic support to the AIDS patients. The pledge taken on the occasion also stressed on the need for solidarity with such patients.
The programme at the University campus here was conducted by various departments. The red ribbon, the global symbol for solidarity with HIV-positive people and those living with AIDS, was given to the students.
The World AIDS Day is held annually to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and also to mourn those who have died of the disease.
Observed since 1988, it is the first-ever global health day.
