According to their brochure, the seminar “seeks to explore the ways in which cultural memory is shaped and controlled through media offers, literature, art and other mnemonic institutions. The crucial question is who is entitled to be the whistleblower of public memory and the forms of remembering in the public discourse(s)? Who decides in which way remembrances rely upon relevant presuppositions in order to shape the past in the present, for promising futures? It also looks into the processes of active forgetting through censorship and political control besides taking a look at the role of academies as an archeological institution.”

The organisers have also called for abstracts for paper presentations on topics related to: Memory and History, Literature and Memory, Memory and the Politics of monuments , Monuments and Monumentality , Art and Memory, Media and Memory, Memory and Memorials, Counter Memories: Gender and Subalternity, Cinema and Memory, Memory and the cyber space and Memory and the Postcolonial.
