I/O showcases technical in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open sources such as Android, Chrome and Chrome OS, APIs, Google Web Toolkit, App Engine, and more.
I/O stands for input/output, as well as the slogan 'Innovation in the Open.
Before the conference started, Google announced it had rebranded its Google Research as Google AI.
CEO Sundar Pichai kicked things off by discussing how AI helps everyone, especially improving health care diagnoses and predictions and accessibility.
I/O was inaugurated in 2008, and is organized by the executive team.
