Kozhikode: Speaking to the media days after her marriage to Shafin Jahan was restored, Hadiya, the 24-year-old Hindu convert requested that the controversies around her conversion to Islam and her marriage must be put to rest.

Hadiya, at her husband's place currently said that she wanted to live her life in peace.

"I willingly converted and married Shafin. The apex court has also agreed upon my right to freedom. Now I want to lead a peaceful life," Hadiya told reporters on Monday.

"I do not have any ill feelings towards anyone. I had to make some harsh remarks against my own parents. I would like to apologize to them for that," she said even while alleging that 'anti-nationals were using her parents'.

The Supreme Court had on March 8 set aside a Kerala High Court order annulling her marriage to Jahan.

The SC had in August 2017 asked the National Investigation Agency to probe the case of conversion and marriage of Hadiya, as the agency claimed a 'pattern' was emerging in Kerala.

The matter came to the fore when Jahan had challenged a Kerala High Court order annulling his marriage with her and sending the woman to her parents' custody.

On November 27, 2017, the apex court had freed Hadiya from her parents' custody and sent her to college to pursue her studies, even as she had pleaded that she should be allowed to go with her husband.

The HC had in May 2017 annulled the marriage terming it as an instance of forced conversion, following which Jahan had approached the apex court.
