Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet has decided to hike ticket prices in more the luxury segment of the state transport buses.
The increase in the fares of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) low floor AC and non-AC buses, super air express, multi-axle Scania and Volvo buses will come into effect from March 1 along with the scheduled rise in the fares of regular transport buses.
The minimum fare in JNNURM low floor non-AC buses will increase from Rs 8 to Rs 10. The per kilometer fare will go up from Ps 70 to 80. The minimum fare allows a journey of up to five kilometers.
On low floor AC buses, the minimum fare will go up from Rs 15 to 20. Since a cess is levied for tickets above Rs 15, the cost of the ticket will be Rs 21.
The per kilometer fare in such buses will, however, continue to remain at Rs 1.50.
An earlier cabinet meeting which had decided to hike ticket charges in ordinary, fast and super fast buses had left the fares in these segments untouched.
Long-distance Scania, Volvo buses also get more expensive. The minimum goes up to Rs 80, and can be utilized for a 20 km-journey. The per km rate has been hiked from Rs 1.91 to Rs 2.
Super air express buses will levy a minimum of Rs 28, up from the earlier Rs 25. The minimum fare is valid for 10 kilometers. The per km rate will be Ps 93 against the existing Ps 85.
