Tribal youth's death: MLA calls for strict action, says his aide not involved Alleging that Ubaid was a close aide of Mannarkad MLA N Shamsudheen, pictures of him campaigning for the MLA also surfaced.

Palakkad: Mannarkad MLA N Shamsudheen has issued a clarification regarding the death of tribal youth Madhu in Attappadi. This was following the propaganda that one among the attackers was a Muslim League activist who had actively campaigned for the MLA during the last elections.

“The man who thrashed the tribal youth is not known to me. The allegations in this regard are baseless,” said Shamsudheen. All those involved in Madhu’s murder should be brought to book irrespective of their political affiliations, he added.

Meanwhile, the images of one Ubaid clicking a selfie while Madhu was being beaten up sparked an uproar. It also led to people enquiring about the political affiliations of the attackers. Alleging that Ubaid was a close aide of Shamsudheen, pictures of him campaigning for the MLA also surfaced. Responding to the charges, the MLA said that Ubaid was not his supporter.

It was on Thursday evening that Madhu, a tribal youth belonging to Kadukumanna hamlet in Attappadi, was beaten by a group of people at Mukkali. His tormentors then handed him over to the police, accusing him of stealing food from the shops in the area. He vomited in the police jeep and died on the way to a hospital.

Tribal organization Attappadi Adivasi Samrakshana Samithi said it would launch a round-the-clock stir in front of the Agali police station till all those involved in the case were arrested.

Scheduled caste and scheduled tribe minister A K Balan, announcing a magisterial-level enquiry into the incident, entrusted the Mannarkad tahsildar with the task. “No culprit will be spared; Madhu’s family will get all support from the government,” said Balan.

Agali police have already arrested K Hussain, a trader at Mukkali and P P Kareem, who was part of the mob that lynched Madhu. Five others are being questioned and a total 15 persons were involved in the incident, said the officers who are part of the team led by IG M R Ajith Kumar which is probing the case.
