mv-pylee Dr M V Pylee, who spearheaded management studies in Kerala, breathed his last at a private hospital in Kochi on Saturday.

Kochi: Eminent educationist and former vice-chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), Dr M V Pylee, passed away here on Saturday. He was 98. Pylee, who spearheaded management studies in Kerala, breathed his last at a private hospital here around 6. 30 pm.

The funeral will be held at Little Forane Church at Oonnukal near Kothamangalam at 2.30 pm on Sunday.

Pylee, who was known for his expertise in the fields of management studies, education and law, was honored with Padmabhushan award in 2006.

An authority of Constitutional law, he has also authored a number of books both in English and Malayalam.

He was born in Moolamattom near Muvattupuzha on October 5, 1919. He started his academic career as a faculty at Lucknow University. Later he moved to Kerala as the founding director of the School of Management Studies in 1964.

He became the vice chancellor of Cusat in 1977. He had also served as the director of Administrative Staff Training College in Hyderabad, director general of Asian Institute of Development and Entrepreneurship and president of the Kerala Management Association among others.
