Even as the media and the public seem to seethe in anger at the alleged involvement of actor Dileep in the abduction and assault of an actress on February 17, voices supporting Dileep are relaying their own versions of another conspiracy and deceit that 'trapped' Dileep.
After his 'parent' organizations abandoned him, Dileep has found solace in the support extended to him by several on- and off-screen friends.
While P.C. George, the 'outspoken' legislator, chose to throw the most insensitive comments at the assaulted actress and another women reinforcing his misogynist rant, former cricketer and aspiring politician Sreesanth, now a budding actor, has reminded the media that no one should be tried and convicted before the courts do so.
Joining the chorus is the actor's own brother who has also spoken to the media, alleging there has been a mammoth conspiracy against the actor.
It's a conspiracy, Dileep will make a comeback: brother Anoop
George was the most vehement voice in the chorus and chose to explore conspiracies that allegedly implicated the actor in the case. Once again, he scored points through his unabashed defense of the male world, this time defending Dileep who he said was being framed in the case. He also went to the extend of saying that the case had gathered unprecedented attention because of the glamorous profile of the survivor.
According to him, Dileep's arrest has to be read along with two other incidents. One of these is Dileep's ex-wife, Manju Warrier (whom he called the 'woman who abandoned the actor') sharing a stage with the chief minister of Kerala and another is the timing of the arrest which happened a day-and-half after former DGP T.P. Senkumar said there was no evidence to prove the involvement of Dileep in the criminal conspiracy. According to George, the political and social response to the incident is also suspect as several women get raped in the state but not all receive a response of this kind.
Anoop, Dileep's brother, who has come up with grave allegations of conspiracies against the embattled actor has said that his brother was being framed and trapped in the case. He also made a claim that his brother's innocence will be proven soon and he will make a comeback. Saying the game plan was drawn to script an end to the life and goodwill of his brother, he insisted on Dileep's innocence.
The sensational case which features a hardened criminal, Sunil Kumar, aka Pulsar Suni, as the prime accused had taken many twists and turns before the actor was finally arrested by the police on charges of conspiracy. Dileep who was kept out of the evident list of suspects was apparently arrested after the police collected convincing evidence against him. The attack was allegedly the result of personal vendetta and financial disputes.
Sreesanth had also given a non-partisan response to the media questions indicating that Dileep must get the basic protection that every citizen gets in the Indian legal system, of being innocent till proven guilty. He also reminded the media not to start a trial, inkling towards the ostracism he faced following the IPL-spot fixing scandal in 2013 that ended his cricketing career rather unceremoniously.
Mamta Mohandas, an actress who had appeared alongside Dileep in several successful movies has also expressed her angst at the developments saying the incident hurts the morale of the entire film fraternity.
Another Malayalam actor Aju Varghese just found himself in a police station on Thursday after he landed himself in trouble mentioning the name of the attacked actress in a Facebook post, a violation of legal norms.
