Cadell Jeansen Raja Police with Cadell Jeansen Raja, suspect in Nanthancode killings. Rinku Raj Mattancheriyil

Thiruvananthapuram: In an unexpected turn of events, suspicions regarding the involvement of another person in the sensational Nanthancode killings have emerged.

Jayakumar, an employee of a fuel bunk in Kowdiar, Friday said he doubted if Cadell Jeanson Raja, the sole suspect in the case, was the youth who bought petrol from the pump at the time mentioned by him in a statement to the police.

Nanthancode killings: Cadell's attempted mind trip that turned tragic?

Cadell took killing lessons from the Internet, practiced using a dummy

Jayakumar said petrol was bought by a youth in mid 20s on April 6. The youth, who had come by an autorickshaw, purchased petrol in a can, he said. He said he was familiar with Cadell as he had filled petrol from the pump earlier.

Cadell had told the police that he had purchased petrol from the pump on April 6 to burn the bodies of the victims – his parents, sister and an aunt.

The bodies of retired professor Rajthankam, 60; his wife, C. Jean Padma, 58, a retired doctor; their daughter Carolyn, 25; and relative Lalitha, 70; were found mutilated and charred in their multi-storey house at Nanthencode early Sunday. The police had also recovered a half-burnt dummy from the house.

Cadell was arrested from Thampanoor railway station the next day. Cadell has been constantly changing his statements and giving different reasons for the gruesome killings. The accused, who led a secluded life with no friends or social life, got influenced by seemingly esoteric ideas and occultism.
