Kochi: The Kochi Metro service from Kaloor to Maharaja's college can be started from October 3, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has informed the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). A final decision will be taken after consulting the state government.
Nehru stadium, Kaloor junction, Lissi junction, MG road, and Maharajas college ground are the five stations on this route. With the service beginning through MG road, the KMRL hopes to draw in more commuters.
At present only the 13 km stretch from Aluva to Palarivattom is operational. This metro route has 11 stations and covers the distance in 25 minutes.
The minimum fare is Rs 10 and the maximum fare – Palarivattom to Aluva – is Rs 40.
There are two other slabs of Rs 20 and Rs 30.
The construction work of the first phase of the metro, spearheaded by metro man E. Sreedharan, was completed in a record time of four years.
