Jaychandran was felicitated on Saturday at an event lined up by A-listers in the social and cultural spectrum in Kerala celebrating the glorious 20-year musical journey of the composer at Al Saj convention centre, here, on Saturday evening.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presented shawl to Jayachandran and legendary singer K.J. Yesudas showered blessings on him and wished him prolonged success in many more years to come. The musical evening titled 'Jayaragangal' was organised by Manorama Online.
Presenting shawl to Yesudas, who completed five decades in the world of music, Chief Minister Oommen Chady said “may the singer lead the cultural realm of Kerala for many more years.”
Meanwhile, Yesudas said, "The training in music which started at the age of five still continues and time will run out when I start to learn." The veteran singer added that music is a blessing from God and that each of its drop should be conserved.
Jayachandran took to the dais by thanking one and all who loved his songs. "Years ago I used to wait outside Tharangini (studio) to get a glimpse of Yesudas and it was a huge blessing when he rendered a song to my tune later," Jayachandran said.
Along with the chief minister and Yesudas, the event was inaugurated by Jayachandran's guru Perumbavur G. Ravindranath, singers Shreya Ghoshal and Sujatha and Malayala Manorama Deputy Editor Jayant Mammen Mathew.
The star-studded gala witnessed a colourful opening with a laser show organised by Bangalore-based group Laser Tech Entertainments.
Yesudas, Shreya Ghosal, G. Venugopal, Sujatha, Vijay Yesudas, Sudeep Kumar, Haricharan, Sreeram, Swetha Mohan, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, Shreya Jayadeep and so on crooned to the popular numbers of Jayachandran.
The 4-hour long cultural extravaganza, embellished with dance, music and drama focussing on the songs composed by Jayachandran, was hosted by actress Nyla Usha.
Actors Suraj Venjaramood and Tini Tom entertained the audience with their antics and comical rhapsodies.
The dance floor was set on fire by actors Rima Kallingal, Miya, Isha Talwar, Iniya, Ansiba, Mrudula Murali, Mani Kuttan hip-hopping to Jayachandrans's songs. Stephen Devassy, Balabhaskar and Karuna Murthy led the fusion music segment. Producer-director, M. Ranjith was the director of the show.
Major Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram, Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, Mayor V.K. Prasanth, Manorama Online COO Mariam Mammen Mathew, Kalyan Group Media Head Anup Mukundan, Neucleus Properties MD N.P. Nishad and its Directors N.P. Noushad, N.P. Nashid, N.P. Nazar, KSFE AGM Rajachandran Nair spoke on the occasion. The Nucleus project in Thiruvananthapuram was unveiled at the event.
