'Jimikki Kammal' composer feels let down. Here’s why The peppy song from Velipadinte Pusthakam catapulted Shaan Rahman to international stardom.

Shaan Rahman is a worried man even as his 'Jimikki Kammal' composition gives new definitions to 'going viral'. If the peppy song from Velipadinte Pusthakam catapulted Shaan Rahman to international stardom, his latest song release has received more dislikes than likes on YouTube.

'Pathungi Pathungi' from My Story has been greeted with boos on social media for reasons other than aesthetics. Many of the detractors are simply venting their ire on the leading lady of the movie, Parvathy, who stirred a hornet’s nest with her criticism of a recent movie starring Mammootty.

'Jimikki Kammal' composer feels let down. Here’s why 'Pathungi Pathungi' from My Story has been greeted with boos on social media.

Rahman, however, believes that the people will warm up to his composition gradually.

“I don’t know what to say. Our people get emotional all the time. They get angry at the drop of a hat. They become cross with you and go to town with their feelings. Yet they patch up if you just give them a pat on their shoulder.

“I had high expectations when I composed this song. I was definitely worried when it was met with such a response. This is the first time that one of my songs get such a response, despite it being the first (Malayalam) song to be released this year.

“I believe that this is a good song. I had got a lot of message applauding the song and congratulating me. So I believe that the audience will warm up to this song gradually once they cool off.

“Not only me, everyone associated with the movie are worried. The responses are getting into everyone, especially Roshni, the director and producer of the movie. I am more worried about her. I only had to compose the song in a studio. Roshni had worked a lot for this movie. I know how she would feel when the first song of her first movie is greeted this way.

“There is no point in me saying that a song had to be treated as a song and it did not belong to an actress alone or not to drag it into any controversies. I do not want to propose anything like that. I feel bad, that’s all. I think they liked the song. At the same time dislikes are piling up. We still have to release five or six songs from the movie. The audience have to judge them. I want my songs to be liked by them. They are the source of my energy and hope.

“I wanted Benny Dayal and Manjari to sing this song. They have unique voices. I could only think of them when the director briefed me about the song. I was told to compose it in a western style. We needed an energetic male voice and a strong female voice. That’s why we chose them,” he said.
