Yesteryear actress Kasturi opens up about casting couch Kasturi had acted in movies like 'Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava', 'Sneham' and 'Panchapandavar'.

Malayalam movie watchers haven’t forgotten Kasturi, the pretty actress who played the female leads in superhit movies like 'Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava', 'Sneham' and 'Panchapandavar'. The South Indian starlet who never shied away from expressing her opinions openly has recently made a shocking revelation about an unpleasant experience. She says that she too had faced casting couch in the early days of her career, but the bold actress had dealt with it without even showing the slightest insecurity of a new comer.

Kasturi revealed that the director of one of her films had asked her to sleep with him as a way of showing her gratitude for the role. She says the filmmaker kept saying during the filming that she could give him ‘gurudakshina’ (offering a gift as a mark of respect to a teacher) in many ways. The actress added that though she failed to realisze his advances initially, she reacted in a harsh manner when he approached her openly. The director never spoke to Kasturi ever again after that.

She also shared another harrowing experience when a film producer, who was as old as the actress’s grandfather, tried to entice her by giving her many offers and invited her to his hotel room. Kasturi says that she refrained from seeking further action against him as she considered his old age.

In Kasturi’s opinion such directors and producers, who shamelessly demand sexual favours from women in return for roles, without even bothering about consent, are the real curse of the film industry.

Many actresses have opened up about the casting couch in the cinema industry, but they claimed that there are several female artistes who choose to keep mum about it fearing that they would lose their opportunity to make it big in the movies.
