Renganath says that if not a sound designer, he would have become a live musician or a violinist. Renganath Ravee, who won the state film award for the best sound designer for the second time on Thursday, is quite a busy bee in the industry. He heard the news about his latest award during a sound recording session in Bangkok on Thursday.
Responding to the news, Renganath told Onmanorama that he was more excited about Lijo Jose Pellissery winning the state award for the best director than his own recognition by the government. “Lijo is really a path-breaker in Malayalam cinema. He is a true enthusiast. I have been blessed to work with him in all his films. I can't express my joy for him,” he said.
Speaking about Ee Ma Yau, the movie which won the state award for both the friends, Renganath said that he would call it the masterpiece of Lijo Joseph. “Ee Ma Yau is Lijo's best, I'd say,” he said.
“We expected the jury would pick Angamaly Diaries. Ee Ma Yau is also a movie that deserves recognition,” he said. Commenting on his own achievement of winning the state award for best sound design for the second time, Renganath said that he was happy though not surprised. “I have a lot many works in my kitty. Right from Veeram, Ramaleela, Street lights, Theevandi and Kali to Angamaly Diaries and Ee Ma Yau, I have given my best. Though I didn't expect this award, I have always hoped for it,” he said.
Renganath said that if not a sound designer, he would have become a live musician or a violinist. “I wouldn't have diverted from the world of sounds and music. I would have exhibited the same level of passion and dedication in those roles too,” he said.
The sound designing maestro, who was associated with more than 80 feature films, 20 short films, 16 documentaries, six corporate films and 10 other audiovisual artworks across Hollywood, Bollywood and other Indian movie industries, was the state award winner for best sound designing in 2015 for the movie Ennu Ninte Moideen. He started his career as a sound recordist at Tharangini recording studio.
