Kalpetta: Four people have been arrested by the Meppadi police for dumping chicken waste from Thamarassery at Padivayal forest area in Wayanad. The arrested were: P K Rafeeq, V P Nissar, C K Anas of Thamarassery and K M Haris of Balussery. The police also seized their lorry.

Dumping of slaughter waste from other districts has become a common occurrence in Wayanad forests and isolated areas in the district. In a recent incident, local people intercepted a lorry in which a four-member group from Malappuram had brought waste to be dumped on a private plot. The men were handed over to the police.

According to the police, a lobby which is engaged in disposing chicken waste was polluting the forest in Wayanad.
