Seethathode: Chittar Young's Club set an example for society by building a home for a mother and daughter within a month, stepping in when all seemed lost. Pathanamthitta DYSP K A Vidyadharan handed over the house key to Vasantha, the widow of Binoji from Mannadi House in Chittar.
Vasantha, along with her daughter Kripa, who is in school, used to stay in a one-room building near the old Chittar bus stand. Her only income was what she made from being a tailor. The roof of the shelter they relied on was on the brink of collapse.
The construction of a new house had begun after getting a grant from the Collectorate and with the help of other generous donors, adjacent to Chittar panchayath member Mariamma's house. While the concreting of the roof was done, the rest of the work stalled for months, prompting Young's club to step in and offer support to Vasantha.
Once Vasantha ceded to the Young's Club's request to help her complete the construction of the house, the youth began work the next day. Under the guidance of club representative Shaji Vellathara, around 50 members of the club worked day and night until the construction was completed, and that too within a month.
District panchayath member P V Varghese presided over the function where the house key was handed over to Vasantha. Speakers at the event included panchayath members Mariama Varghese and T K Saji, club president Nijas Idayileveetil, Abdul Rahman, Naseer Kootadiparambil, Faisal Basheer, Madhusoodhanan and SI Vipin Gopinadhan.
