Kottayam hospital await Good Samaritans to make special children smile A model of the proposed children’s park on the premises of the General Hospital in Kottayam.

Kottayam: The General Hospital here has plans to set up a children’s park for the benefit of youngsters having autism, Down’s Syndrome, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, visual defects and learning disabilities. Though thousands of such children visit the hospital for treatment, they would have to wait a while to use a facility that would bring smiles on their faces as well as ensure quicker recovery as the project has been delayed owing to shortage of funds.

However, not losing hope, the hospital authorities are now seeking contributions from the Good Samaritans in town to make the park a reality. Land for the park has already been identified on the hospital premises. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5 lakh.

Those willing to help can contact the programme manager, National Health Mission on phone number 9946105480 and the hospital’s RMO on 9495377189 or 7034622777.

The District Early Intervention Center (DEIC) was opened at the general hospital in May 2015 to offer free treatment to children with disabilities. The treatment program covers children up to 18 years, including newborns. Over 10,000 children have already sought treatment at the DEIC here, a project under the National Health Mission.
