Angamaly: A group of students belonging to FISAT engineering college here has developed a ‘Disease diagnostic machine’ which will help patients avoid a visit to the hospital for treating 10 diseases. All that the patient has to do is stand on a platform in front of the machine and it sends signals through his or her eyes for examination. Along with that, the machine checks the respiratory movements. The necessary instructions will be displayed in the machine.
Ailments related to blood pressure, cholesterol, fever and diabetes can be detected using this method. The students said that their invention is aimed at benefiting people in the rural areas. After the machine identifies the condition, a report will be sent to a doctor’s phone through an App. The doctor, after checking the report, will prescribe the required medicine, which will be available from the vending point in the machine. The report is sent to the doctor to confirm the diagnosis by the machine.
The machine is the invention of the students Akhil, Shimone, John and Mehjibin. They spent a year on its development and were guided by their teachers, Prof Bijoy Varghese and Prof C Mahesh.
The disease diagnostic machine has already attracted attention and won prizes. At the e-yantra meet of engineering colleges organized at the national level by IIT Mumbai, FISAT had won the award for the machine. The most realistic award instituted by IIT Mumbai was also secured by the machine.
Realizing the potential of the machine to make an impact in society, the students have initiated steps to secure a patent. Among those who praised the students for their invention included college chairman Paul Mundadan, principal Dr George Isaac, vice principal Dr C Sheela, academic director Dr K S M Panicker and dean Dr Sunny Kuriakose.
