Plus one student writes exam as father's body awaits cremation

Ambalappuzha: With his father's body waiting to be cremated, Arjun wrote his last plus one exam paper on Wednesday.

Knowing well that his loving father won't be with him anymore, a distraught Arjun was persuaded by the heartening words of his teachers and classmates to give the exam.

After the exam, Arjun came home, and in the presence of grief-stricken family members, relatives and local residents, did the last rites of his father.

Arjun's father, Thottappally Karthikayil Sajeevan (Pappachan), (53) died on Tuesday after collapsing due to high blood pressure.

Though he was rushed to Alappuzha medical college hospital, Sajeevan's life couldn't be saved. Arjun came to know about his father's death only on Tuesday night. Relatives decided to keep the body at a private mortuary and bring it home after Arjun's exam was over.

Sajeevan, who wanted to offer his children good education, had left his expatriate life for good recently and was running a flour mill next to his house.

Meenu, Arjun's elder sister, is studying BSc at Edathua St. Aloysius College, and Arjun is a student of Purakkad SNM higher secondary school.

Arjun came to the exam centre with a relative and was comforted by teachers and fellow students before he entered the hall. After the exam, the teachers and school authorities took part in the funeral.
