A hickey, one of the most common and seemingly harmless sex injuries, turned fatal when a 17-year-old boy reportedly collapsed and later died in Mexico City.
Julio Macias Gonzalez died after collapsing while having dinner with his family after a blood clot on his body caused a stroke. His girlfriend had given Julio a hickey earlier that day, which caused the blood clot that travelled to the teen's brain, causing the stroke.
The 24-year-old girlfriend has since disappeared, and Julio's parents are reportedly blaming her for his death.
A similar incident was reported in New Zealand in 2011, when a woman suffered a stroke after a blood clot caused by a hickey reached her heart.
A hickey is formed when a person bites and sucks another person's skin, causing a blood vessel to burst and leaving a red bruised-like mark.
