Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister S.M. Krishna on Saturday has quit active politics, and reportedly sent a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi asking to be relieved from the primary membership of the party.
The 85-year-old leader has not given out any reasons on what prompted this sudden decision.
Krishna is expected to officially announce his decision on Sunday.
The Congress leader had returned to state politics after resigning as union minister for external affairs in October 2012.
He served as the Karnataka CM from 1999-2004 when the Congress returned to power in the state. At that time, he was the party's state unit president.
He had also served as Maharashtra governor and speaker of the Karnataka Assembly.
