Kottayam: The funeral of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) general secretary Jimmy George, who died of heart-related ailments at a hospital in Bengaluru Friday night, was held here Monday.
Jimmy, 52, who was also NCP’s national working committee member and chairman of the state government-owned Kerala Electrical & Allied Engineering Co Ltd (KEL), was under treatment following a cardiac surgery.
His mortal remains were brought to his residence 'Perincheril Anjanam' at Kollad around 4 pm Sunday.
Rev. Dr Abraham Mar Paulos led the funeral ceremonies Monday. The funeral was held at Marthoma Bethlehem Church, Kollad, at 2 pm Monday.
Transport minister A.K. Saseendran, NCP national general secretary T.P. Peethambaran, state president Uzhavoor Vijayan and state general secretary P.K. Ananadakuttan accompanied the body from Ettumanoor to Kottayam.
NCP state leadership paid tributes to the departed leader at a meeting held Saturday. Uzhavoor Vijayan presided over the meeting.
All public programs and functions of the NCP have been put off by a week as a token of respect for Jimmy George.
