Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan Thursday launched the state government's ambitious Haritha Keralam (Green Kerala) Mission project in the presence of noted singer Yesudas and actor Manju Warrier. Here's all you need to know about the scheme which the government calls a revolutionary movement on the lines of literacy mission, democratic decentralization and people's planning.

» Kerala government's an ambitious program envisaged to make the state clean, protect its water resources and soil

» Launched by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at nearby Parasalla in Thiruvananthapuram Thursday.

» Eminent Carnatic vocalist and playback singer K J Yesudas is the brand ambassador of the scheme

» The mission envisages a clean and green state through waste management, organic farming and conservation of water resources with people's support.

» The scheme has been planned as part of the Nava Kerala Mission.

» The government aims to reclaim the lost agriculture heritage of the state through the scheme.

» As part of the scheme, the government will conduct a survey covering 60 lakh houses, to collect data about existing waste management systems in the state.

» The government plans to revive water resources like ponds, rivers, lakes and streams.

» Cultivable land to be increased as part of the scheme.

» Land cleaned under this scheme will be used for vegetable cultivation.

» Power generation from solar and wind energy would also be a part of this project.

» Haritha Keralam is envisaged as a people's participatory program.
