Kochi: An under-construction building caved in at Kaloor on Thursday night, forcing the partial suspension of the Kochi Metro services.
The Kochi Metro authorities informed that services will be available only between Aluva and Palarivattom on Friday.
A major tragedy was averted as no construction worker was present at the site when the structure collapsed around 9.30 pm on Thursday.
Though no casualties were reported, occupants of nearby buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Vehicular traffic was also affected as deep cracks were formed on the road following the incident. Traffic has been blocked on the road passing through the accident spot, which is near the metro track between Kaloor and Lisie Hospital.
Officials said a crater has formed on the roadside, close to the section where metro pillars are erected. The under-construction building collapsed when piling works were being carried out near the Gokulam Park. Pumping of water from Aluva has been halted as the water pipe belonging to the Water Authority city was ruptured following the incident.
Ernakulam collector, who visited the spot, has ordered for a probe into the incident.
