Malayalam actor Kollam Ajith dies Kollam Ajith acted mostly in villain roles in Malayalam movies of the 1990s.

Kochi: Noted Malayalam actor Kollam Ajith died on Thursday morning. He was 56.

The actor, who was suffering from stomach-related ailments, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi. He breathed his last at 3.40 am.

A regular figure in the Malayalam cinema of the 1990s, Kollam Ajith acted mostly in villain roles. Kollam Ajith, who wanted to assist in movie making, first got a chance to act in noted filmmaker Padmarajan's Parannu Parannu Parannu that released in 1983. Then on he acted in close to 500 films across south Indian languages. Ivan Ardhanaari that released in 2012 was his last film.

Though his parents were originally from Kottayam, Ajith was born and brought up in Kollam as his father was working there. Hence, he came to be known as Kollam Ajith.

Superstar Mammootty and others from the industry paid tribute to Ajith, who is survived by wife and two children. The mortal remains were taken to Kollam, where the last rites would be performed.
