Thiruvananthapuram: Copious rain in March has helped bring down temperatures in Kerala, which had peaked to 39 degree Celsius. According to the Met, the state received 78 per cent extra rain this summer and the heat, which had averaged 39 degrees, dropped to 36.
Kerala had expected 25 millimeters (mm) of average rain in March, but received 46 mm. All districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha got above-average summer rain.
Kollam received 110 mm rain while Pathanamthitta got 101 mm. However, Thiruvananthapuram had a shortage of 35 per cent, while Alappuzha received 4 per cent less.
Palakkad, which had recorded the state’s highest of 39 degrees early March, got a relief of three degrees following the downpour. This is 1.3 per cent less compared to last year.
Meanwhile, temperature is 2.2 per cent higher than the average in Thiruvananthapuram.
The weather department expects summer rain in some places early April also.
Kerala normally receives 380 mm rain during April-May.
