Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Blockchain Academy (KBA), under the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management – Kerala (IIITM-K), has been given membership in the Hyperledger project of the Linux Foundation. KBA is the first institution in India to get Linux Hyperledger project membership.
While IIITM-K is a state government institution engaged in research in information technology, Hyperledger is a joint project carried out by various institutions working for advancement of Blockchain technology. KBA has been given an associate membership in Hyperledger along with the Cambridge University’s Centre for Alternative Finance.
Hyperledger aims to create ledger frameworks and code bases of enterprise standards. This would enable easier business transactions as well as help companies develop strong market-oriented applications and hardware.
Hyperledger is a global network involving experts in the fields of finance, banking, Internet of Things (IoT), distribution, construction and technology. Hyperledger has 231 institutions based in 25 countries as its members. They include 14 major companies which took membership recently.
Of the around 70 independent institutions under Linux Foundation, it is Hyperledger that is witnessing the maximum growth. Kerala Blockchain Academy, which is the first such institution in India, is a joint initiative of IIITM-K and global Blockchain Education Network (BEN). It seeks to explore the possibilities of leveraging blockchain technology for public good, capacity building initiatives, promoting disruptive innovations and entrepreneurship.
