The government has not revised the concessional fares for students despite facing strong pressure from bus operators to withdraw it.Thiruvananthapuram: As announced earlier, the revised bus fares will come into effect from Thursday.
The Kerala government had decided to raise the minimum fare for ordinary, city and fast services from Rs 7 to 8 following an indefinite strike and ensuing conciliatory talks with the private bus operators.
The state that had declined a revision since 2014, finally agreed to the long-standing demand of the bus operators , both private and state-owned.
The minimum fare for fast passenger services has been revised to Rs 11, up from Rs 10.
Revised fares in regular buses. According to the cabinet decision, the per kilometer charge for ordinary services will be Ps 70 from the current Ps 64.
For executive and super express services, the minimum charge will go up to Rs 22 from the current Rs 20.
The increase in the fares of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) low floor AC and non-AC buses, super air express, multi-axle Scania and Volvo buses will come into effect from March 1 along with the scheduled rise in the fares of regular transport buses.
The minimum fare in JNNURM low floor non-AC buses will increase from Rs 8 to Rs 10.
On low floor AC buses, the minimum fare will go up from Rs 15 to 20. Since a cess is levied for tickets above Rs 15, the cost of the ticket will be Rs 21.
Long-distance Scania, Volvo buses will also get more expensive. The minimum goes up to Rs 80, and can be utilized for a 20 km-journey.
Super air express buses will levy a minimum of Rs 28, up from the earlier Rs 25.
