Little Sam Abraham brings joy to martyred soldier's family Anu delivered the baby at 05.20 am on Wednesday at a private hospital in Kayamkulam

Mavelikkara: Forty one days after he laid down his life for his motherland, his son was born – unaware that he would never have his father's protection.

When Lance Naik Sam Abraham of Mavelikkara was killed in Pak firing near the Jammu border, his wife Anu was eight months into her pregnancy.

Sam died as he was planning to come home for the delivery in February. Anu delivered the baby at 05.20 am on Wednesday at a private hospital in Kayamkulam. His elder child Angel is two-and-a-half years old. Special prayers were held at Sam's home Wednesday, on the 41st day of his demise.

Abraham, 34, a member of the Sixth Madras Regiment, was killed after Pakistan army initiated firing at Sundetbani sector along the Line of control on January 19. He was laid to rest at his native town with full military honors on January 22.

A huge crowd of people, including schoolchildren, bade a tearful farewell to the soldier.
