V.T. Balram Kodiyeri demanded that Rahul Gandhi and A.K. Antony should explain their stand on the MLA's comments, who used mean words to insult AKG.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress legislator V T Balram has drawn flak from his own party for his controversial comments on late Communist leader A K Gopalan (AKG).

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief M M Hassan asserted that Balram's remarks are wrong.

Asserting that AKG is respected by every Keralite, Hassan said he has warned the MLA from Thrithala regarding such statements.

While the entire CPM leadership protested, Congress leaders like K Muraleedharan and Shanimol Usman also came out against Balram.

The MLA had posted about the AKG-Susheela Gopalan relationship on social media the other day.

Quoting AKG's autobiography, Balram wrote that Susheela was 22 when AKG married her, after being in love for 10 years. He also called AKG a 'pedophile' , triggering furious protests on the social media.

Mani, Kodiyeri flay Balram

Minister M M Mani had lashed out against Balram, saying “Balram's comments were a rouge's words.” Using a Malayalam slang, he went on to add that “what Balram said is indecent and nonsensical. No one in the world would talk so.”

Kodiyeri, the CPM state secretary, had also deplored the “mean propaganda led by the Congress MLA.”

He pointed out that the Congress is a party that expelled Mani Shankar Iyer for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “neech aadmi”.

Kodiyeri also demanded that Rahul Gandhi and A.K. Antony should explain their stand on the MLA's comments, who used mean words to insult AKG, a freedom fighter and Congress leader in the early days of his political career.

DYFI attacks office

DYFI activists smashed Balram's name board at his office in protest against his comments on AKG.

The attack occurred as a Thrithala area committee march was on to protest against the local MLA. The activists also poured motor oil on his office.

The police had arrested 10 DYFI workers over the violence. They were let off on bail later.
