This was revealed by Dileep's former wife and award-winning heroine Manju Warrier in her statements to the police during the investigation into the case.
"She was the first to inform me about the affair between Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. When I asked Dileep about this, he said why should you listen to such juvenile talks?” Manju told the police in her statement.
Dileep had divorced Manju Warrier in 2015 and married Kavya Madhavan in 2016. There were reports that Kavya's affair with Dileep had led to the star couple's divorce. More film personalities in their statements, accessed by Manorama News, had supported the police theory that Dileep had some grudge against the victim.
Apart from Manju Warrier, singer-cum-anchor Rimi Tomy and actor Kunchacko Boban also made similar statements to the police.
Kunchacko told the police that Dileep had indirectly asked him to withdraw from Manju Warrier's comeback film 'How Old are You'. The film went on to become a runaway success. "He called me over the phone one day and asked details about the film. He hinted that I back off from the project but did not directly say so," Kunchacko told police. "There were also talks that Dileep tried to remove the victim actress from the movie Cousins," Kunchacko said.
Rimi Tomy's disclosure on US show
Rimi Tomy in her statement told police that Dileep and Kavya were in a relationship when the stars toured America as part of a stage show in 2010. Rimi also claimed that the assault victim had informed Manju Warrier about this.
According to the statement given by Kavya, the victim had played a role in causing discord in Dileep's marital life with Manju Warrier.
However, she did not say Dileep had any role in the heinous crime.
The assault victim, who has also worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and attacked in her car for two hours on February 17 night in Kochi. Dileep was arrested on July 10 for plotting the attack and hiring goons to assault the actress and videotape the crime. Dileep is currently out on bail.
