Malappuram flash mob: police file case The incident kicked up a heated debate on social media with many coming out in defense of the girls and upholding their freedom of expression.

Malappuram: The Kerala police have registered a suo motu case against those involved in the social media campaign against three girls who participated in a flash mob, wearing hijab. The police have registered FIR against six Facebook accounts after monitoring social media.

Certain other social media users, who allegedly trolled the women, are also under the police scanner.

The Kerala Women's Commission had last week registered a case against those who had made abusive remarks against the three women, students of a dental college.

The students were trolled for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by publicly dancing at an AIDS awareness campaign at a traffic junction in Malappuram on December 1.

The women, wearing hijabs and jeans, had performed the 'Entammede Jimmikki Kammal' a popular number from Mohanlal-starree 'Velipadinte Pusthakam'.

The video of the flash mob at the busy traffic junction had invited the wrath of a section of the Muslim community and the students were trolled.

The incident kicked up a heated debate on social media with many coming out in defense of the girls and upholding their freedom of expression.
