Kerala police roll out mobile apps to ensure safe travel

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have launched two mobile apps to ensure safe travel in the state. While , the 'Citizen Safety' app aims to make travel safe for solitary travelers, especially women and senior citizens, 'Traffic guru' is a handy guide to traffic rules and regulations.

The two apps are in trial. They follow an existing app, ‘Raksha,’ launched by the police to list the services and other information related to the force.

Citizen Safety

The app allows passengers to send to the police control room the registration number and photos of the vehicles they travel. They can share their itinerary to their friends or relatives. The app also allows them to send distress calls to emergency numbers.

The panic button in the app allows the passenger to send a distress call to the police control room without dialing any numbers. This will allow a police team to respond quickly to the call. The user can access toll-free numbers by pressing on the home screen of the app.

The app, designed by the Information, communication and technology wing of the police, works on Android and iOS platforms. Download the app

Traffic guru

The app is designed like a game to train users in traffic rules and regulations. The app will teach the users the things to do when faced with everyday hassles like bumper-to-bumper traffic, lane discipline, speed control and parking.

The game comes with excellent graphics and sound, giving a virtual reality experience of driving.

The app can be downloaded from Google PlayStore or directly.

Users can try out these apps and send their feedback. The police will look into the feedback before bringing out the final products, director general of police Lokanath Behera said.
